Program Standards & Description

ACCOUNTING STANDARDS
The Accounting instructional program prepares students to practice the profession of accounting and to perform related business functions. Students who successfully complete the Accounting program’s coherent sequence of instruction will develop an in-depth understanding of basic business, economic, and financial management practices. The Accounting program includes instruction in accounting principles and theory, financial accounting, managerial accounting, cost accounting, budget control, legal aspects of accounting, reporting procedures, statement analysis, and professional standards and ethics in accounting. Throughout the Accounting instructional program, students learn and practice valuable real-world skills using industry standard spreadsheet and/or accounting software to manage financial information.
 

AGRISCIENCE STANDARDS
The AgriScience program is designed to prepare students for over 300 career pathways by providing them an overview of the fields of agricultural science, animal science, plant science, and soil science; animal husbandry, soil conservation; and agriculture operations such as farming, ranching, and agriculture business, and natural resources.
 

AUTOMOTIVE STANDARDS
The Automotive Technologies program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain all types of automobiles. The Automotive Technologies includes instruction in brake systems, electrical systems, engine performance, engine repair, suspension, and steering, automatic and manual transmissions and drive trains, and heating and air condition systems.
 

BUSINESS OPERATIONS
The Business Operations instructional program prepares students to provide administrative support to managers and executives within large, medium, and small businesses and organizations. Students who successfully complete the Business Operations program’s coherent sequence of instruction will develop an in-depth, practical understanding of operational and administrative business principles and practices. The Business Operations program includes instruction in office procedures, project Operations, internal and external customer service, business communications, word processing and data entry, office machines operation and maintenance, public relations, records Operations, report preparation, and business law and ethics. Throughout the Business Operations instructional program, students learn and practice valuable real-world email, word processing, presentation, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and database skills using industry standard office productivity software.
 

CULINARY ARTS
The Culinary Arts program prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills required for food production and service occupations in commercial foodservice establishments. Students completing this program will possess the technical knowledge and skills required for planning, selecting, storing, purchasing, preparing and serving quality food products. Nutritive values, safety and sanitation procedures, use of commercial equipment, serving techniques and management of food establishments will also be studied. Throughout the Culinary Arts instructional program, students will develop advanced critical thinking, applied academic, career development, life and employability skills, business, economic, and leadership skills required for culinary arts occupations.
 

EARLY CHILDCARE EDUCATION
The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare students for employment in early childhood settings. The Early Childhood Education program includes instruction in child growth and development, child health, nutrition, safety, planning, and supervision of developmentally-appropriate practices and learning activities. Child guidance, family relationships, parenting, and applicable legal and administrative requirements are also addressed. Preparation for the development and management of effective early childhood programs and facilities is included.
 

EDUCATION PROFESSIONS
The Education Professions program is designed to prepare students for employment and/or postsecondary opportunities in the field of education. The program provides instruction in education career choices, education structure and systems, theories, history, pedagogy, developmental stages, learning styles and instructional methods. The Education Professions program also provides interactive experiences with students at different age levels in a variety of content areas in different educational environments. Education Professions is designed to articulate with the Introduction to Education courses at the community college level as well as paraprofessional preparation programs. In addition to technical skills, students completing this program will develop advanced critical thinking skills, enhanced academic skills, develop civic responsibility, and comprehend the stages of human development and their impact on learning in the classroom.
 

FILM & TV PRODUCTION
The Film and TV Production instructional program prepares students to produce digital films and videos (including news broadcasts, commercials and public service announcements, feature films and documentaries, episodic serials, music videos, educational videos, and others) and to work in a variety of on- and off-camera positions within traditional and emerging video production industries. Students who successfully complete the Film and TV Production program’s coherent sequence of instruction will develop an in-depth understanding of the operation and maintenance of professional-grade digital video cameras and related specialized video production equipment; studio and location lighting techniques; audio recording techniques; scenic composition; visual and special effects, titling and motion graphics; and the use of industry-standard hardware and software to capture, enhance, manipulate, and edit video and audio files to produce a cohesive, professional-grade finished product. Film and TV Production students will explore the history and societal and economic impact of the film and TV production industry and will examine legal and ethical considerations and business best practices unique to film and TV production and related industries. Throughout the Film and TV Production instructional program, students learn and practice valuable real-world skills using professional-grade video production equipment and industry standard video and audio editing software and visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing applications to create high-quality media products.
 

MUSIC & AUDIO PRODUCTION
The Music and Audio Production instructional program prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills to the production of sound recordings as either finished products or as components of traditional or emerging music productions, film and video productions, live sound productions, broadcasts, video game productions, or mixed media productions. Students who successfully complete the Music and Audio Production program’s coherent sequence of instruction will develop an in-depth understanding of the setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized audio equipment, including microphones, speakers, recording equipment, mixing boards, cables and connectors, and related electronic equipment; audio recording and editing techniques; sound engineering; and working with producers, editors, directors, artists, and production managers. Music and Audio Production students will explore the history and societal and economic impact of the music and audio production industry and will examine legal and ethical considerations and business best practices unique to music and audio production and related industries. Throughout the Music and Audio Production instructional program, students learn and practice valuable real-world skills using industry standard audio editing software to create professional-grade media products. The Music and Audio Production Career and Technical Education program is delivered as a coherent sequence of courses designed to offer students knowledge and skills that meet the needs of the workplace. The Professional Skills developed by business and industry leaders across Arizona are integrated throughout the program. Music and Audio Production students develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in the staterecognized Career and Technical Student Organization, SkillsUSA.

 

STAGECRAFT
The Stagecraft program prepares individuals to apply artistic, technical and dramatic principles and techniques to the communication of dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through technical theatre methods. The Stagecraft program includes instruction in set design, lighting design, sound effects, theatre acoustics, scene painting, property management, costume design, and technical direction and production and use of computer applications to support these functions.
